The unique case of Community Forestry in Mexico is examined closely in light of vast experience gained over twenty five years. The present study emphazises the scale and level of maturity of community forestry in Mexico, and points to the fact that it is probably unmatched anywhere else in the world, thus presenting a national laboratory for studying the social and ecological benefits of community management of natural resources.
