Certification in Mexico: The cases of Durango and Oaxaca.

This article analyzes some of the problems and oportunites of certification in Mexico. It points out the main reasons that have motivated forest owners to take on certification, as well as some of the main difficulties to implement it. If offers a analisis of the direct and indirect costs of certification, and some of the reasons why certificatioin has not brought sufficient economic benefits.
El artículo aborda algunos de los problemas y oportunidades de la certificación forestal en México. Se señalan las principales razones que han motivado a los dueños de los bosques a buscar la certificación, así como las principales dificultades para implementar estos esquemas. Asimismo, se brinda un análisis de los costos reales de la certificación y las razones por las cuales todavía no se dan los beneficios económicos esperados.
